(TEUTOPOLIS SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AND SUPERINTENDENT BILL FRITCHER LISTEN TO INPUT FROM THE PUBLIC)

Teutopolis school board members heard support Tuesday for proposed renovation of the restrooms and locker rooms at the high school building.

A discussion time followed an Open House allowing citizens to tour the boys and girls locker rooms as well as the public restrooms located by J.H. Griffin Gym.

Board members are considering the work as an alternate to Phase 2 of the high school renovation project. Supporters say bidding the work as an alternate to Phase 2 would have contractors and bidders on site and that could translate to savings.

Health and life safety concerns are a consideration.

Another consideration is that the facilities in question are those most often seen by the public when they attend athletic events.

We talked with Teutopolis Board President Brad Koester following the meeting on where they go from here?...

There was brief discussion about waiting until a 1% sales tax that can be used for facility improvements is passed by county voters, but those present agreed that it is uncertain when, or whether, the tax will be approved. A majority of county voters would have to approve the tax. While a majority of Teutopolis district voters have supported the measure twice, the vote countywide has not been successful.
