Hit and Run Crash on Route 45 Thursday Morning

Effingham County sheriff's deputies are investigating a hit-and-run crash in the south part of the county that occurred Thursday morning.

The report is that an unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on US Route 45, while a car driven by 63-year-old Ellen Mitchell of Farina was northbound on the highway. The unknown vehicle reportedly failed to yield when turning left onto 500th Avenue and turned in front of the Mitchell vehicle, resulting in the collision. The unknown vehicle then continued away from the scene.

Mitchell and her passenger, 67-year-old Margaret Givens of Farina, both suffered injuries, but both refused treatment.

Deputies continue to search for the driver of the unknown vehicle. The crash happened at 9:47am.
