An almost all new Effingham City Council is to be sworn in to office tonight.

The Council meeting will begin at 6pm at City Hall.

The current Council will convene the meeting and then go into closed session to wrap up business. The group will then reconvene in open session and have an opportunity for any final remarks, and then conclude their term.

The departing Council includes Mayor Jeff Bloemker and Commissioners Don Althoff, Merv Gillenwater, Kevin Willis and Kevin Esker.

The new Council will then be seated, with Gillenwater the only returning member. Joining the Council will be Mayor Mike Schutzbach and Commissioners Hank Stephens, Larry Micenheimer and Libby Moeller.

There has been much speculation regarding the future of City Police Chief Jeff Fuesting, but the City appointment ordinance is not on the agenda for tonight's meeting.
