Wet Conditions Again Slowed Field Work Last Week

Wet conditions last week again hampered fieldwork in Illinois.

There were 1.5 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending April 21.

Statewide, the average temperature was 53.9 degrees, 0.6 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.11 inches, 0.16 inches above normal. 

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% short, 45% adequate, and 54% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% short, 51% adequate, and 48% surplus.

Corn planted reached 1% compared to 3% last year and 17% for the five-year average. 

Winter wheat headed was 2%, compared to 4% last year and the five-year average of 6%. Winter wheat condition was rated 5% very poor, 10% poor, 30% fair, 50% good, and 5% excellent.
