No one knows for sure how many people drop by in the middle of the night to pray or reflect, but the number of documented visitors to Effingham's Cross at the Crossroads is nearing 85,000 since the Cross Welcome Center opened in 2005.

The number of visitors in 2012 totaled close to 8,500.  That brought the number of visitors since the Welcome Center opened in February 2005 to 84,659.

The peak year for visitors was 2009, when 12,505 were recorded, including 8,037 who walked into the Welcome Center.

The Cross Welcome Center is staffed on a regular basis by volunteers.  If you'd like to help or would like more information about being a Cross Greeter, phone Kathy at 342-4100.
