The Effingham City Council Tuesday finalized an agreement regarding the sale and replacement of Fire Station #3 on South Banker.

Under a plan announced earlier, the City will sell the station to Russ Braunecker Cadillac-Buick-GMC, doing business on this project as RB Legacy Holdings, for $200,000. RB Legacy Holdings also agrees to make $75,000 in improvements to the building, which the company plans to use as a vehicle detailing and service station operation.

In conjunction with the sale of the existing fire station, the City agreed to purchase the former Apria Healthcare building from General Development Corporation of Kankakee for $405,000 plus closing costs. That building, located at 500 West Jaycee, will be converted for use as the fire station.

The Council also finalized a job creation agreement with Continental Mills in the city business park. Under the agreement, Continental Mills agrees to create up to 20 jobs. The City will pay Continental Mills $2,000/full time equivalent job. The company currently employs 38 people, but is looking at starting an additional shift.

Also approved Tuesday was an agreement with Doedtman and Moreton. The City agreed to make land available on the northeast corner of 3rd and National for the development of four eight-unit apartment complexes. The City will receive $123,549.20 for the land.
