The Effingham County Republican Central Committee has approved a vote of no confidence in Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady and demands his resignation as state party chairman.

The vote comes after Brady's announced support for gay marriage, but is also in response to what local Republicans term Brady's "refusal to address the problems associated with campaign losses by the Illinois Republican Party".

The resolution also takes Brady to task for what was termed willful disregard for filling precinct committeeman spots throughout the state and a "general dismissal" of the importance the precinct committeeman position plays within the Illinois Republican Party, campaigns and elections.

The resolution applauds 15th Congressional District Representative to the State Central Committee Bob Winchester for reaffirming support of traditional marriage and for rebuking Brady for his actions, commends religious institutions and conservative groups who have expressed their opposition to the original passage of civil unions in Illinois and their opposition to passage of gay marriage in Illinois, and expresses appreciation to individuals like County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel who have joined in judicial challenges to the civil union law as a violation of the state constitution.
