Two women from Noble were injured Sunday morning in a crash in the eastern part of Effingham County.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports the crash happened at 7:20am on Illinois Route 33, 1-1/2 miles west of Dieterich. Deputies report a minivan driven by 55-year-old Sherry McKee of Noble was eastbound on the highway when the vehicle ran off the roadway to the left and struck a slight elevation change at the entrance to a private drive. The vehicle became airborne and landed in the north ditch. The minivan struck a utility pole, causing considerable damage to the pole and electrical equipment on the pole.

Authorities were not able to gain access to McKee and her passenger, 29-year-old Lona McKee of Noble, until Ameren Illinois reached the scene to shut off the electricity, which was arcing continuously due to the electrical equipment from the power pole. Once the electricity was secured, crews from the Teutopolis and Dieterich Fire Protection Districts worked to extricate Sherry McKee from the vehicle.

Both Sherry and Lona McKee were flown from the scene by Arch Air to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Sherry McKee told deputies she was unsure what caused her to drive off the roadway. She was cited for improper lane usage.
