Cowden-Herrick school board members got project updates at Thursday's meeting.

Wabash has been given clearance to begin a fiber internet project pending ground conditions. The project is to be completed in May.

The Cowden-Herrick district was not selected for the property tax relief grant, nor an EPA school bus grant.

There was discussion of adding heating, ventilating and air conditioning at both school buildings in the summer of 2020.

Superintendent Seth Schuler reported the State is behind in transportation and tuition reimbursement payments. Also, due to the recent Federal government shutdown, the State began reimbursing the Federal lunch and breakfast programs at 50%, but Schuler said all other funding for the District is steady and funds are balanced.

The Board approved acquiring the SDS financial software program, and a grant purchase for a 10-passenger van was approved for $24,750. Board members approved moving $1.5 million from checking to a CD with Community Banks of Shelby County, a Student Council trip to St. Louis was given the okay, and the Board hired Chad Ruot for a night custodial position at the Cowden building for next school year.
