Effingham mayoral candidate Scott Ealy says Effingham needs to honor the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

The City currently does not recognize the holiday; it's a normal work day. The day is observed at the federal, state and county levels and is a school holiday.

Ealy said the holiday should be "a celebration of the human rights contributions of all people "for and by all people."
