Here's the latest on the Jefferson Avenue water main project in downtown Effingham, according to information from the Effingham City Engineer's Office:

The contractor B & T Drainage has made good progress this week. The new 10” pipe is in place from Banker Street to Third Street and was connected to the existing water main at Third but will not be turned on yet. There is still pipe to be placed on Jefferson between Banker and Front and on Banker, 5th, 4th and 3rd. Once all of the new pipes are placed, the new lines are filled from the connection at Third Street and disinfected, pressure tested, flushed and then sampled. When the samples have passed the required IEPA analysis, work can begin on switching water services to the new pipes.

It is estimated that the remaining work on installing the pipe will take 2 to 3 weeks if there are no weather interruptions.

B & T has informed the City that as of Friday afternoon, they do not plan on being onsite next week due to a forecast with snow and below freezing temperatures. The City will provide an updated work schedule next week.

The City of Effingham and B & T Drainage appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation during the project.
