The contractor started the directional drilling work on Jefferson Avenue between Banker Street and Third Street this morning – January 14.

The work today – Monday involves pushing 2” rods from Third Street to Banker Street. As the rods are pushed, crews will excavate the existing utilities to ensure they are not damaged and there is the required distance between the utilities. On Tuesday, the contractor will pull a device from Banker Street to Third Street that makes the path for the 10” water main. On Wednesday, the contractor will begin pulling the 10” water main from Banker Street to Third Street.

The work over today (January 14), Tuesday (January 15) and Wednesday (January 16) of this week will require the North driving lane and parking lanes of Jefferson Avenue to be closed. This is to allow the contractor access to the route of the new water main and for the safety of the public. While every precaution is taken, it is safer for everyone if there are no vehicles or pedestrians in these areas.

In addition, on Wednesday, January 16, the Westbound lane and adjacent parking on the North side of Jefferson Avenue between Front Street and Banker Street will be closed in order to stage the 10” water main. Banker Street between Jefferson Avenue and Washington Avenue will also be closed in both directions.
