Two Sunday Crashes w/Injuries Reported by City Police

Two crashes involving injuries occurred Sunday in Effingham. City police reported the crashes on Thursday.

One crash occurred at 11:15am at Banker and Eiche. Police said a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Kiersten Goodman of Mason attempted a turn and struck a vehicle driven by 43-year-old Jane Walker of Watson. The impact caused Walker's vehicle to travel into the outside lane and strike a third vehicle attempting to merge into the outside lane, driven by 48-year-old Kim Schwing of Effingham.

Goodman was injured and was taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Walker was injured, but refused treatment.

Goodman was cited for failure to yield.

The other Sunday crash occurred at 4:18pm at Keller Drive and Evergreen Avenue. Police say a vehicle driven by 16-year-old Michael Kaldas of Effingham rear-ended a vehicle driven by 39-year-old Joseph McWhorter of Dieterich.

A passenger in McWhorter's vehicle, 64-year-old Brenda McWhorter of Dieterich, was injured, but refused treatment. Kaldas was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
