Jason Plummer has been sworn in as 54th District State Senator.

Plummer succeeds Kyle McCarter as senator. McCarter did not seek re-election and was recently confirmed as US Ambassador to Kenya.

Ray Watt spoke with the new senator after Wednesday's swearing-in ceremony...

Plummer said he's keeping McCarter's district office in Vandalia, and the same district secretary Tara Hall.

Sen. Plummer lives with his wife, Shannon and daughter, Audrey, in Edwardsville. He serves as Vice President of R.P. Lumber, a family owned and operated business with nearly 70 locations throughout Illinois and Missouri. Sen. Plummer is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and served as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy.

The 54th Senate District is located on the Illinois side of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area and stretches east to Effingham. The district includes all or portions of Bond, Clinton, Effingham, Fayette, Madison, Marion, St. Clair, and Washington Counties.
