The Effingham High School competitive cheerleading squad is headed for state competition this weekend.

The squad, Director Brittany Mette and Assistant Coach Lisa Sigg will compete at the former Prairie Capital Convention Center, now known as the Bank of Springfield Center, this Saturday.

The cheerleading squad has had a good run; they finished first in a competition November 25, and finished third at both Highland and Peoria in December.

In addition to the full squad performance this weekend, two individuals have received recognition. Kaylee Phillips made All-State Cheer Team, while Lauryn Douthit is in the finals for a scholarship and had to submit a video as part of the competition.

This round of competition is under the auspices of the Illinois Competitive Cheerleaders Association. IHSA sectional competition is set for January 26.
