Fire did major damage to a home northwest of Wheeler overnight Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Dieterich firefighters were called to the home of Chris and Beth Probst at 2765 E. 1400th Avenue just about midnight Sunday morning. Dieterich Fire Chief Ross Martin said they had to go to a second box alarm to secure enough firefighters to help fight the blaze. Fire companies from Dieterich, Effingham, Watson, Shumway, Edgewood Bi-County, Wade Township, Altamont, Sigel, Oblong and Crooked Creek were on hand, along with Jasper County EMS and Abbott EMS, as well as American Red Cross.

Martin said no one was injured. He said the fire apparently began in the attic area of the two-story structure. A representative of the State Fire Marshal's Office will be on scene today to help determine the cause of the fire.

Martin said firefighters cleared the scene about 6:30am Sunday.
