A scary moment when a Jasper school district school bus slid off a rural road Monday afternoon.

Jasper School Superintendent Dan Cox said the incident occurred between 3:45pm and 4pm about two miles west of Bogota.  Cox said the driver was rounding a curve on the narrow road when she hit an icy patch.  The bus slid off into a ditch and overturned onto the driver's side.

Cox said the driver contacted the district office and another bus was sent.  The driver and the older students on the bus helped the younger students out the back door and the occupants were held on the second bus to stay warm until parents arrived at the scene to take their children home.  Cox thought having the parents come to pick up their children was the better option in the aftermath of the incident.

The last child was on their way home between 5:00 and 5:15.

Paramedics examined the driver and the students at the scene and no serious injuries were detected, although Cox was sure some of the students would have bumps and bruises this morning.
