A 17-year-old boy was struck by a pickup truck north of St. Elmo Tuesday night.

State police say the incident happened just after 7pm about a mile north of St. Elmo on Fayette County Road 2150 East.

A 16-year-old boy from St. Elmo was driving the pickup truck. The 17-year-old pedestrian, also from St. Elmo, was walking southbound in the northbound lane. The truck was traveling northbound and had just come over a hillcrest. The driver said he saw the pedestrian, but was unable to stop and struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to St. Elmo High School, where he was airlifted by Air Evac to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

The pedestrian was cited for improper walking on a roadway.
