Several people were given recognition at Tuesday's Effingham City Council meeting.

Effingham High School student Isaac Pizanowski was presented a Citizen Service Citation by Effingham Police Chief Jeff Fuesting. Fuesting said Pizanowski was walking to school on September 13 when he witnessed a domestic violence incident outside a house and tried to break it up, assisting the victim until police reached the scene.

The chief also recognized one of his officers, Matt Hoelscher, for his skill in affecting a recent arrest. Hoelscher was presented a Chief's Commendation. The chief said Hoelscher was investigating vehicle burglaries in the downtown area on September 25. He was able to obtain an identification of the suspect and then located an application for employment at a local business. Hoelscher posed as a possible employer, arranged a job interview with the suspect and then stopped the man and made an arrest on the way to the interview. The chief said Hoelscher was also able to recover all of the stolen merchandise and return it to the owners.
