A minor fire has temporarily closed Effing Brew Company in downtown Effingham.

The incident occurred around 1pm. Local electrician Matt Stead was working on a breaker box in the building at Jefferson and Banker. When Stead attempted to pull a breaker from the box, a flash fire occurred.

The fire did not spread and there was no structural damage. Stead was examined at the scene, but declined further treatment. The incident did result in an electrical odor in a portion of the building, but firefighters aired out the building to get things back to normal. Firefighters began clearing the scene shortly before 2pm.

The Effingham County Health Department has to check the building since consumption of food takes place there. Once the "all clear" is given, Effing Brew's managing partner Colby Patterson will let us know when they will be open.
