The Vandalia Historical Society invites the public to the second annual “Wine & Ale with Abe” at the Vandalia Statehouse State Historic Site on Saturday, September 29 from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. The event is a fundraiser in support of the Statehouse Window Restoration Project.

Guests at “Wine & Ale with Abe” can sample a wide variety of local, national and international wine and beer, along with food from local restaurants and clubs.

Families attending should take lawn chairs and lawn blankets and enjoy the music of Legends with Mike and Bobbye Eulberg, Judy McNutt, Harold Swafford, Tom Fedrigon and Scott Greenwood, and Drew Sheafor and LS Xpress.

There will be a new “Wine & Ale with Abe” logo for this year’s event on the collectable wine and pilsner glasses. A limited number of t-shirts will be available for purchase with the 2018 logo on the front, and a famous Abraham Lincoln quote on the back: “Whatever you are be a good one.” Vendors displaying jewelry, art, crafts, clothing, vintage items, and home décor will be set up from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m.

“Wine & Ale with Abe” will be held on the Statehouse Lawn in historic Vandalia, and the Statehouse will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for tours. Be sure to bring pennies for the Penny Press located inside the Statehouse.

The Vandalia Statehouse, located at 315 W. Gallatin St., Vandalia, the fourth Illinois statehouse, served as the capitol of Illinois from 1836 until 1839, and is the oldest surviving capitol building in the state. Abraham Lincoln served there as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives.
