State Crop Report for Week Ending September 9

Widespread rain fell across Illinois last week. There were 3.9 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending September 9.

Statewide, the average temperature was 73.3 degrees, 3.0 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 3.18 inches, 2.55 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 3 percent very short, 6 percent short, 65 percent adequate, and 26 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 2 percent very short, 13 percent short, 71 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus.

Corn dented reached 96 percent, compared to 80 percent last year. Corn mature reached 56 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 29 percent. Corn harvested was at 4 percent. Corn condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 31 percent excellent.

Soybeans coloring reached 75 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 39 percent. Soybeans dropping leaves was at 37 percent, compared to 12 percent last year. Soybean harvest was 1 percent complete. Soybean condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 16 percent fair, 51 percent good, and 28 percent excellent.

Sorghum coloring reached 86 percent, compared to 83 percent last year. Sorghum mature reached 56 percent, compared to 38 percent last year. Sorghum condition was rated at 1 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 63 percent good, and 17 percent excellent.
