Shortly after Gov. Bruce Rauner took office, he tasked Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti to chair a committee to study how to reduce the number of governmental units in Illinois.

The task force came up with a number of recommendations, some of which have been enacted.

In addition to reducing governmental units, the task force also started looking for examples of where governmental units were sharing resources. One of those identified was the Effingham Regional Career Academy, the effort to offer learning opportunities to students and adult learners from throughout the area to make them more marketable.

Sanguinetti said ERCA is one of 20 efforts being recognized statewide. She spoke about why the effort is beneficial...

Sanguinetti was joined by Lake Land College President Josh Bullock, Effingham County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Norma Lansing, and Effingham Unit 40 Superintendent Mark Doan who chairs the ERCA Board, Beecher City Unit 20 Superintendent Scott Cameron, Dieterich Unit 30 Superintendent Cary Jackson, and Teutopolis High School Principal Greg Beck representing Teutopolis Unit 50 School District. Also on hand were Jon Althaus and Jackie Joines of Lake Land College, distance learning specialists from the area, and ERCA Board Member Matt Roedl who is member of the group's marketing committee.

Sanguinetti and Bullock will be the guest speakers at Wednesday morning's Kickoff to Education Breakfast at the Thelma Keller Convention Center to celebrate what's good about education in the Effingham area.
