The rainfall totals from the remnants of Cyclone Gordon across South Central Illinois reached as high as 10 inches.

The official two-day rain total at the Salem Water Plant was 8.57 inches. The official total in Centralia was 4.83 inches. Rain totals in the Mt. Vernon area reached 10 inches. The Alma Water Plant recorded 5.59 inches.

There were rain totals in the five to ten-inch range across the region, with readings of more than eight inches in Opdyke, east of Fairfield, Sandoval, west of Alma, Foster Township, east of Xenia and east of Farina. The highest rainfall total reported was 11 inches south of Wayne City.

The most damage from the flooding appears to be on the northeast side of Mt. Vernon. The American Red Cross disaster assessment coordinator will be conducting a disaster assessment in coordination with the City of Mt. Vernon and Jefferson County EMA to do assessments and casework. They will also pass out clean-up kits to anyone that might need them that was affected by the flooding.

The EMA team will also be collecting damage data from the area to send to IEMA as required. Those conducting the survey will have identification credentials with them and will not be soliciting any products.

In Salem, flood waters from Town Creek lapped at the underpinning of several of the homes in the Starlight Mobile Home Park.
