I-57 Crash Leaves One Dead and Several Injured

At 1:35 Saturday morning Marchelle Collins, 40 from Chicago, was traveling at a  slower speed in the right lane of I-57 near mile marker 167, north of Effingham, due to having a spare tire on his minivan.  

A semi driven by 41 year old Terrell Marshawn Ross from Hopkins, South Carolina came up from behind and struck the Collins vehicle in the rear causing heavy damage to the front of the semi and the rear of the minivan.   

The minivan went into the median. while the tractor-trailer came to rest on the right shoulder.  

Ross was not injured.  However injured in the Collin's  vehicle were  Olivia Collins 39, Willie Mae Butler 57 , and a 12 year old juvenile all from Chicago who were transported to HSHS Saint Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham by ambulance.  

Michael Anderson 18 from Chicgo was transported by ambulance to Carle Hospital in Champaign, IL.  A 9 year old juvenile was also air lifted to Carle  Hospital in Champaign, IL.  

Mary Gates 74 from Calumet City was air lifted and was later pronounced deceased at Carle Hospital. 

No charges have been issues at this time as the crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
