The State Fire Marshal’s office has arrested a 34-year-old Kinmundy woman for arson following a Wednesday afternoon fire at her home.

Kinmundy-Alma Fire officials indicated Kayla Judds and family members were at the home at 712 West Fourth when the fire was discovered in the utility room.

Assistant Chief Richard Day said the Fire Marshals office had been called out to investigate the cause of the fire and had pinpointed it to the area of the washing machine.

Day reports they got a quick knockdown and kept the fire from spreading out of the one room. He says there was a very small amount of smoke in the adjoining kitchen, but not enough to cause any damage.

The fire call came in at 12:24 Wednesday afternoon. Farina was called for mutual aid before Kinmundy-Alma firemen got the quick knockdown. Firemen were on the scene for about an hour.
