(CAROL AND KEVIN FERN)

Kevin Fern's life was changed by childhood cancer. He's now walking across America to benefit children currently battling the disease, or those who might in the future.

Fern was diagnosed in 1985 and was declared cancer-free in 1988. He and his wife Carol are involved in supporting camps where kids with cancer can have fun while interacting with other kids who are sharing their experience.

As a symbol of the battle and his own victory over cancer, Fern is pushing an IV pole as he completes his cross-country journey. He plans to leave it at Boston Children's Hospital upon completing the walk in early November.

By the way, Kevin began the walk March 25 at Manhattan Beach Pier in California. He spends the night with wife Carol in the RV she's driving as Kevin walks across the nation. His last stop on the walk for Monday was our studios at Fayette and Willow. He was back this morning to resume his walk east. He hopes to cover 26 miles today.

Our Greg Sapp had the opportunity to talk with Kevin Fern at the studios Monday evening...
