Two candidates for Jasper Unit 1 Board of Education in the April election have filed objections to nominating petitions for three other candidates.

Candidates Jed Earnest and Andy Pullen are the objectors.  Earnest has filed objections to the petitions of candidates Mandy Rieman and Don Leventhal while Pullen has filed objections to the petitions of Rieman and Holly Farley.

The objections generally concern petitions lacking information or containing incorrect information.  Examples include a lack of specificity regarding the district in which the candidates are seeking election, and unclear information as to the office being sought by the candidate, specifically what term they are seeking.

A local electoral board will consider the objections and review the information before ruling on whether the petitions should be allowed.  The local electoral board is made up of the school board president, school board secretary and the board member not the president or secretary with the longest continuous service.  In the Jasper district, that means Board President Fred Huddlestun, Board Secretary Melinda Barthelme and Board member Gordon Millsap.  The board must meet to consider the objections within three to five business days of the receipt.

Jasper School Superintendent Dan Cox said they are tentatively looking at scheduling the hearing for 6pm on Monday, January 14.
