In the 1000 block of South 17th street in Matton at approximately 6:26 p.m. Monday night a female called for assistance with Andrew L. Hussong, 37 of Mattoon. Hussong was acting in an irrational manner and threatened the female. Upon police arriving, Hussong locked himself in a bedroom beginning the two hour stand-off.

Hussong advised police that he was armed with a firearm and made specific threats toward officers. The incident led to a multi-agency response for assistance which included the Coles County Response Team, Coles County Sheriff’s Deputies, Lakeland College and Eastern Illinois University Police, Dunn’s Ambulance and the Mattoon Fire Department.

Efforts to negotiate Hussong’s peaceful surrender were fruitless. At approximately 8:37 p.m. the room in which Hussong had locked himself was breached by members of the Coles County Response Team and Hussong was taken into custody.

Hussong was found to be in possession of an airsoft pistol and a claw hammer, but no actual firearm.

Hussong was taken to Sarah Bush Linclon Health Center for evaluation, and then to jail. He was charged with Aggravated Assault.
