Illinois State Fair Opens Thursday

The 2018 Illinois State Fair opens a 10-day run Thursday in Springfield.

Thursday will be Preview Day. Gates open at 7am. The day will feature the twilight parade, discounted carnival rides and a free concert on the Rising Star Stage. The twilight parade will step off at 5:30pm from Lincoln Park. The Rising Star Stage performance will begin at 7pm.

Other highlights day-by-day at this year's fair:

Friday, August 10--County Fair Day featuring the more than 70 county fair queens including Miss Effingham County Serena Strullmyer. It is also the first day of harness racing.

Saturday, August 11--First Responders Day. It's also Kids Day, with a reminder that kids 12 and younger get in free.

Sunday, August 12--Veterans Day at the fair, with veterans admitted for free. A veterans parade and activities are planned.

Monday, August 13--Senior Day with visitors 60 and better admitted for free. Inductions to the Illinois Senior Hall of Fame. It'll also be Scout Day.

Tuesday, August 14--Agriculture Day at the fair. The Governor's Sale of Champions, along with the Commodity Auction.

Wednesday, August 15--Governor's Day at the fair, where the Republicans will take center stage. Many former Illinois governors will be on hand.

Thursday, August 16--It'll be Democrat Day, with several special guests expected.

Friday, August 17--Futures for Kids Day. All emergency service providers who show their badge at the gate will be admitted for free.

Saturday, August 18--Park District Conservation Day. Members of more than 45 park districts from throughout Illinois will entertain fairgoers across the grounds with special events in Conservation World.

Sunday, August 19--Family Day on the final day of the fair. The general admission price is lowered to $5/adult.
