New Home for Local Business

A new home is in the works for a local business.

Special Pet Foods will open Tuesday at 123 East Jefferson Avenue in dowtown Effingham. The business opened in Rickelman Plaza in December 2015.

The business was the outgrowth of the problems experienced by their dog. Sable, a German Shepherd, was "allergic to everything", according to store owner Tom Robb. She couldn't stand any of the prescription foods, and they were high-priced. 

That led Robb to experiment with various food items, which proved helpful to Sable and led to the opening of the store. The thought was, "If Sable has these problems, so must other pets."

The store's website, specialpetfoods.com, allows you to eliminate proteins that cause problems for your pets.
