A Sigel native is the first-ever fulltime female deputy in the history of the Effingham County Sheriff's Department.

Jessie Wendt has been hired as a fulltime sheriff's deputy. Prior to her hiring, Wendt worked as a full-time police officer for the City of Leroy. She will be relocating and establishing a residence in Effingham County.

Deputy Wendt was born and raised in Sigel. She graduated from Teutopolis High School, attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and received a Bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
