At 10:25 am Tuesday, the Altamont Fire Protection District was called to the area of 1500th Ave. and 500th Street for a tractor on fire inside a shed. The tractor, an International 666, is owned by Linden Alwardt.

The fire started when Alwardt was fueling the tractor before use. After spilling some fuel, Alwardt allowed time for the fuel to dry before starting the tractor. Some fuel which was spilled near the starter ignited causing the tractor to erupt in flames.

After instructing another person to call the fire department, Alwardt used a small dozer to remove the flaming tractor from the building. The tractor fire was extinguished prior to the arrival of firefighters and the structure sustained minimal damage due to Alwardt’s quick actions.

Altamont firefighters cooled the wood structural members and monitored the area with a thermal imaging camera to ensure the fire was extinguished.

The tractor sustained serious damage in the incident. There were no injuries and firefighters were on scene approximately 30 minutes.
