A motorcycle rider was fatally injured when two cycles collided in Jasper County.
The incident occurred at 5pm Sunday on Illinois 130, four miles south of Newton.
State police say 54-year-old Kevin Sager of Parkersburg and 47-year-old Russell Tomblinson of Olney were southbound when they attempted to pass a vehicle. They were confronted by oncoming traffic, though, and attempted to move back into the driving lane. Police say Sager's cycle struck the back of Tomblinson's cycle, causing Sager's cycle to overturn on its side with Sager still on the unit. The cycle skidded off the roadway into a ditch.
Sager was taken to Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, where emergency personnel pronounced him dead.
Tomblinson was not injured.
Neither cyclist was wearing a helmet.
