Teutopolis school board members this week agreed to seek State approval of plans for replacement work at Teutopolis High School.

The Board is seeking the State's okay to use health/life safety funds to finance the project. The proposal would allow construction of a replacement of the 1929 portion of the high school building. Superintendent Bill Fritcher said, should the State give its approval to using health/life safety dollars, the district could then seek approval for the teardown of the 1929 portion, also utilizing health/life safety funds.

Fritcher said seeking approval for the construction comes first, since studies have shown construction of a replacement of the 1929 portion would cost less than renovating the 1929 portion. Less square footage would be involved in the new construction than in a renovation project, one factor in a lower cost for that work.

Fritcher hastened to remind that the action taken by the school board does not obligate the Board to a project; both renovation and new construction are options, as is the do-nothing option.
