Damage was done in Altamont Saturday afternoon by the storms that traveled through the area.

No injuries were reported from the storms that came through between 1:30 and 2pm.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reported that power lines were knocked down, some of those by the trees and limbs that were downed by the storms. A tree fell on the home of Melvin and Freida Beccue on Division Street, damaging the roof and west side and allowing the torrential rains to pour into the opening.

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont canceled their Saturday evening worship services due to the storms.

Altamont, which has its own municipal electric company, had crews from as far away as Flora and Sullivan helping with repairs to get electrical service restored. The area of the city from roughly Route 40 north bore the brunt of the damage, especially on either side of the CSX Railroad.

More storms are a possibility through the weekend.
