Businesses and industries had the opportunity to learn more about youth apprenticeships at the Chamber First Friday Luncheon for July.

(MICHAEL BARTH)

Michael Barth works at a company in Danville that has proved to be a leader in the area of youth apprenticeships in Illinois. Barth also serves on the Illinois Workforce Innovation Board's Apprenticeships Committee, which works to develop Apprenticeship standards for the state.

Barth was accompanied by a student who just completed the youth apprenticeship program in Danville and by the student's mother, since part of the drill to pass the program is getting parents involved.

Chamber President and CEO Norma Lansing said there are local firms interested in such an apprenticeship program, so wanted to present an example of what's out there.
