Effingham County 911 Telecommunicator Jordan Ping can really deliver.

Ping has been honored for his efforts to assist a woman in labor the morning of June 27. Ping took a 911 call just after 8am that a woman traveling south on I-57 about 10 miles south of Effingham was in active labor. The caller advised that her daughter was the person in labor and that she was pulling over to wait on an ambulance. Ping paged out the ambulance and Watson first reponders and began pre-arrival instructions with the caller.

The labor progressed rapidly and with Ping's instructions over the phone to the mother the baby girl was delivered before the ambulance and first responders arrived about 10 minutes after the call was received.

Effingham County Sheriff Dave Mahon said Ping "did an outstanding job of staying calm and delivering pre-arrival instructions during a very stressful situation." Mahon said Ping "is a credit to his profession and the men and women who go to work every day and are prepared to assist our citizens on the other end of that emergency 911 call."
