The Fayette County criminal case involved a sheriff's deputy being dragged by the defendant's vehicle is on hold due to fitness issues.
19-year-old Adriana Elaine Brown-Gibson of Springfield was arrested on a series of offenses involving possession of cannabis from an incident in April.
Fayette County Sheriff's Deputy Ronnie Stevens had stopped a vehicle along US Route 51 just south of US Route 40 in Vandalia. As he approached the vehicle, Stevens observed what he believed to be criminal activity. Brown-Gibson attempted to flee the scene and caused Stevens to become entangled in the vehicle. Stevens was dragged for an undetermined distance and then fell out of the vehicle. He was airlifted to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis but was later released.
Brown-Gibson was formally charged with possession of cannabis. In the meantime, she was hospitalized due to mental health issues. It's expected she will be examined as to her fitness to stand trial.
