Teutopolis school board members are looking at the district's Math curriculum.

Teutopolis Superintendent Bill Fritcher said the District wants to look at how the curriculum is set up; what's taught at which level in an effort to make sure students have the best opportunity to succeed. Board members were given information at this week's meeting for their review, then the issue will be discussed at the July board meeting.

There was some impromptu discussion at this week's meeting about the district grading scale and whether there should be a switch to a 90-80-70-60 scale as was done in recent years by the Altamont district and will be done in Effingham Unit 40 for the coming school year. There was no consensus on whether to change scales.

The Board approved renewals of property/casualty and liability insurance coverage. Fritcher said the new rates are "decent" and said the bus crash involving the boys basketball team last year did not have a significant impact on rates. The other driver involved in the crash was found at fault in criminal court, but she didn't have insurance, so the District's insurance had to cover the costs incurred.

Teutopolis board members also discussed the District's 8th grade promotion exercise. It was decided to continue the tradition. The Board also discussed the pros and cons of a fulltime School Resource Officer, but no decision was reached.

The Board approved prevailing wage rates for the coming school year; and agreed to change the Adult lunch price to $3.20. The State Board of Education indicates the Adult lunch price must be 50 cents higher than the highest student-paid lunch price.

The school board approved an amended budget for the current fiscal year to correctly reflect revenues received from the State, and approved for first reading a policy change on accelerated placement classes recommended by the Illinois Association of School Boards.

As previously mentioned, the Board hired Chester Reeder as boys varsity basketball coach as well as a high school PE and Driver's Ed teacher. Also hired were Hannah Apple as a sixth grade teacher, Greg Downes as elementary General Music teacher and as junior high band director, and Laurie Thompson as part-time high school Athletic Director.
