One crash led to another Sunday in Cumberland County.

The first crash happened about 7:45am seven miles west of Greenup on Eastbound I-70. 61-year-old Maxwell Engel of Indianapolis told state police his pickup truck blew a tire. The pickup slid sideways on the highway towards the median. The vehicle hit the left shoulder and began to overturn. The truck overturned, coming to rest upside down on the shoulder of Westbound I-70.

Engel was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated. He was flown from the scene by Air Evac to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana for treatment.

While that crash was being handled, a semi driven by 41-year-old Latina Allen of Indianapolis was stopped at the scene when her rig was hit from behind by a semi driven by 51-year-old Surinder Gill of Fontana, California. Allen was injured and was taken by ambulance to Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Gill was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

Engel was cited in the first crash for improper lane usage and an expired registration.
