The strong storms that blew through the area earlier Thursday knocked out power to more than 1,000 electric customers.

The wind from one storm blew over a semi in Jasper County.

The incident happened just before noon, when a rig driven by 40-year-old Zhenning Yang of Temple City, California was traveling on Illinois Route 130 at Jasper County Road 500 North. The semi was headed southbound when it was struck by a strong east crosswind. The rig was blown over onto its side and slid into the east ditch.

Yang was injured and was transported to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
