Governor Bruce Rauner has announced Illinois' five-year transportation improvement plan. One of the key projects is reconstruction of the Illinois 16 interchange at Mattoon.

The work also involving a bridge replacement is estimated to cost $31.2 million.

Some other significant projects involve interstate resurfacing work.

Those will include the portion of Interstate 57 from US Route 45 at Neoga north to the Coles County line, a stretch of 3.7 miles, valued at $9.1 million...and the portion of I-70 from the abandoned railroad bridge at Altamont to a point eight-tenths of a mile east of Altamont. 2.2 miles of road surface is involved, along with ramp repair, at an estimated cost of $11.2 million.
