Lower Jobless Rates Again in April

Unemployment rates in area counties dropped to historic lows in April.

The Effingham County jobless rate fell to 2.8% in April, down from 3.3% one year earlier.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security reported these rates in area counties for April:

Coles--3.4%, down from 3.9%

Cumberland--2.9%, down from 3.2%

Shelby--3.4%, down from 3.8%

Clay--3.8%, down from 4.7%

Fayette--4.1%, down from 4.8%

Jasper--3.4%, down from 4.0%
