Effingham resident Richard Griffin has been sentenced to five years in prison for burglary.

The 48-year-old Griffin and another man were arrested on counts of burglary and theft in May 2017.

Two burglaries to motor vehicles were reported while the vehicles were parked along South Banker. Police officers found that DJ equipment and CDs valued at more than $4,000 were stolen, and another truck had more than $1,400 in power tools stolen.

A couple of days later, police learned that a local church had puchased DJ equipment they believed to be stolen. Officers determined the equipment was the same items stolen from the vehicle.

Griffin was given credit for serving almost one year in jail awaiting disposition of his case. He must also make restitution for the value of the items stolen and must pay fines.

The co-defendant in the case earlier pleaded guilty and was given probation and jail time.
