Altamont school board members Monday reviewed end-of-year events.

Those include 8th grade promotion and grade school Honor Student Assembly at Altamont Grade School this Thursday at 2pm, with Thursday the final day of attendance for 8th graders, and high school commencement this Saturday night at 7:00 in ACHS Gym.

Superintendent Jeff Fritchtnitch reported on the tentative budget for the coming fiscal year. Fritchtnitch is anticipating the Education Fund will increase by 2%, the Operations and Maintenance Fund would decrease slightly, the Transportation Fund would increase slightly, and the Working Cash Fund should realize a 1.5% increase.

Fritchtnitch said overall, he sees the projected balance reflecting the District moving into a more stable position, but he recommends two more years of "conservative management" to reach fund balances that are comfortable. A hearing on the amended budget for the current fiscal year is set for June 14.

The Board accepted the resignation of Andrew Snow who has been hired as teacher and boys basketball coach at Neoga. Also accepted were resignations from custodians Doug Culver and Twila Johnson-Lee; employment of Laura Smith as junior high English/Language Arts teacher and junior high Cheerleading coach; employment of Jarielle Cameron as grade school teacher; employment of Mitch Martin as grounds and custodial floater full-time; and employment of Cole Borders for summer custodial work.

The Board approved membership in the IHSA for the coming year; hired Glass and Shuffett for audit work for the past fiscal year; approved a surety bond for District Treasurer Rita Guse; and tabled discussion on bookkeeper software and on Board postings on the District website.
