One lane of eastbound I-70 was closed between Altamont and Effingham Monday afternoon when a semi rear-ended a truck involved in striping operations on the roadway.

The crash happened three miles west of Effingham at 1:40pm. A rig driven by 44-year-old Ronald G. Fisher, Jr. of St. Genevieve, Missouri was traveling in the right lane and drove past a construction maintenance truck with an arrow board pointing for traffic to merge into the left lane. The semi continued in the right lane and struck another construction maintenance truck also with an arrow board pointing for traffic to enter the left lane. The truck struck by the semi was being driven by 25-year-old Benjamin Streeval of Sherman. Both drivers were injured in the collision and were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Both eastbound lanes were open to traffic again as of 3:40pm.

Fisher was cited for disobeying a traffic control device, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and a violation of Scott's Law.

Effingham firefighters assisted Illinois State Police at the scene.
