Law Day to be Observed Thursday Locally

Law Day for 2018 will be marked locally on Thursday.

The event is sponsored each year by the Effingham Elks Lodge locally and by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks nationally.

The local observance includes selecting students to spend the day with government officials to get a better understanding of how local government functions. 

Students from Effingham and St. Anthony high schools will oversee city governments. Those students, and the offices they will hold, are:

City activities will include a Meet and Greet at City Hall at 8am in the Council chambers, to be followed by a Welcom, Student Assignments and an overview from City Clerk Kelsey Lock. The students will leave for tours at 8:30am, with time scheduled at the shooting range and at the water treatment plant and wastewater treatment plant. A mock City Council meeting is scheduled for 1:20pm before the group heads for ice cream and dismissal.

The County students will job shadow the various county office holders. Participating students, by school:

The participating students and participating officeholders are invited to attend a noon luncheon at the Elks Lodge on South Banker, as are their parents.
