Construction is underway on a 755,000 square foot distribution center in St. Elmo.

The facility owned by SunTrust Equity Funding will be located just east of the Pinnacle Foods manufacturing plant along the south side of I-70. Pinnacle Foods has agreed to a 15-year lease of the building for storage of its products. The facility is to be completed by the end of the year.

St. Elmo Mayor Ernie Myers said the project is "a plus for St. Elmo and the surrounding area." Myers said workers at the St. Elmo plant are from throughout the region, not only St. Elmo.

The mayor said there is space for an expansion of the building to the south of another 503,000 square feet. He said there are 200 trucks a day in and out of the facility. Myers said water and sewer service is already in place on the south side of the interstate, and said "we are looking to grow even more."
