(HOW THINGS LOOKED WHEN FIREFIGHTERS FIRST REACHED THE SCENE)

Fire damaged an outbuilding on property owned by Ryan Jones on the south end of Effingham.

Watson and Effingham firefighters were summoned to the scene about 2pm. Jones said he had fired up two machines in the outbuilding to warm them up before doing some work. He then went to his shop to get some items and one of the machines caught on fire while he was away.

Firefighters knocked the fire down quickly, minimizing any damage to the outbuilding and to other machines stored inside. The breezy conditions kept the fire and smoke away from the remodeled barn a short distance away and from the farmhouse just to the east. The property was owned by the Overbeck family before being purchased by Jones.

The cause of the fire is still being determined.

No one was injured.
